Join Pr. Brian Flamme for a tour of the locations pivotal in the life and history of Martin Luther and the Lutheran Reformation.

  • Nine Days traveling the German countryside to see where Martin Luther lived, studied, and preached to reform Christ’s Church around the life-giving Gospel.

  • We will visit and worship with a confessional Lutheran Church in Berlin at the conclusion of the tour giving us an excellent opportunity to hear about the blessings and challenges of our Christian brothers and sisters in Germany.

Detailed Itinerary

Every day will include prayer, Bible study, devotions, hymns, and a study of Luther’s writings led by Pastor Brian Flamme.

Day 1 – 02 AUG (SUN) – ARRIVE FRANKFURT, GERMANY – MAINZ

Welcome to Germany!

• Individual airport transfers are included to your Mainz hotel.

• This evening join your group for a welcome dinner.

Day 2 – 03 AUG (MON) – MAINZ – WORMS – SPEYER – HEIDELBERG

• Discover 2,000 years of history in Mainz, founded by the Romans, occupied by Napoleon, and rich with

cultural heritage. Begin with a guided walk through the Old Town to see the highlights.

• View the majestic Cathedral of Mainz, built above the Rhine Valley with its "Cathedral Mountains". St.

Martin's Cathedral is a key feature of the cityscape even today – over a thousand years after its construction.

• View the Gutenberg Monument before a visit to the Gutenberg Museum to learn about printing from the

moveable metal type and see a Gutenberg Bible.

• In Worms see St Peter’s Church near the town square and visit the Luther Monument.

• In Speyer tour the Cathedral with an audio guide then continue to Heidelberg.

• Visit the historic ruins of Heidelberg Castle, a delightfully eclectic hodgepodge of buildings from different

periods of German architecture with breathtaking views over the Neckar Valley.

• Take a guided walking tour of Old town and learn the history of the Heidelberg Disputation.

• Arrive at your hotel for an evening at leisure.

Day 3 – 04 AUG (TUE) – HEIDELBERG – MARBURG – WARTBURG – EISENACH

• Depart after breakfast to view the site the of the Marburg Colloquy.

• In Wartburg, take a guided tour of the formidable Wartburg Castle where Luther, under "house arrest",

translated the New Testament into the German language in 1523.

• End the day in Eisenach for an evening your leisure.

Day 4 – 05 AUG (WED) – EISENACH – COBURG

• Visit to Bachhaus, the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach.

• Tour Lutherhaus to Martin Luther’s childhood home.

• Travel to Coburg, the city Martin Luther once described as “exceedingly charming” for a guided walking tour

to discover the heritage of beautiful buildings, art treasures, towers and churches.

• Enjoy a guided tour of the mighty Veste Coburg Castle, a fortress built on the hills above the town in 1225.

• This evening dine as a group at a local restaurant.

Day 5 – 06 AUG (THU) – COBURG – ERFURT – EISLEBEN – HALLE – LEIPZIG

• Travel to Erfurt to visit the Augustinian Monastery, where Luther spent his early years as a monk

• Continue to Eisleben which is noted among the most significant in Luther's history; he was born here in 1483

and died here in 1546 and old manuscripts indicate that he felt a special affinity to Eisleben.

• See the house of his birth and death, St. Andrews Church where he preached his last sermon, the Luther

Monument, and St. Anne's Church with the famous Biblical scenes hewn in stone and many other sites.

• In Halle, visit the Market Church to view where Martin Luther preached and where his death mask is stored.

• Then it’s on to Leipzig, where composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn lived the last years

of their lives. It was Mendelssohn who founded the Leipziger Conservatory in 1843

Day 6 – 07 AUG (FRI) – LEIPZIG – TORGAU – WITTENBERG – JÜTERBOG – BERLIN

• Stop in Torgau to view Katie Luther’s death house.

• Then continue to Wittenberg to travel back in time on a walking tour to see the Castle Church door where

Luther posted his 95 Theses, giving birth to the Reformation.

• See the Stadtkirche Wittenberg (Town Church), the Old Latin School and the Cranach Houses.

• Stop in Jüterbog where John Tezel sold indulgences before arriving in Berlin for an evening at leisure.

Day 7 – 08 AUG (SAT) – BERLIN

• This morning wind your way through 800 years of history on this fascinating sightseeing tour of Berlin and a

for a great introduction to this once-divided city to see the State Opera House, Museum Island, the

Reichstag, Tiergarten Park and the elegant Ku-Damm. Stop to take photos at the Brandenburg gate, Kaiser

Wilhelm Memorial Church, and the Holocaust Memorial.

• In 1961 East and West Berlin became physically divided by a concrete wall, leaving the Brandenburg gate

isolated in a restricted area. As the wall began to fall in 1989, the Brandenburg Gate was once more

reachable, and became considered a national symbol of peace and unity. Today it is Berlin's most famous

landmark.

• Your afternoon is at your leisure, with your Tour Director on hand to help you make the most of your day.

Day 8 – 09 AUG (SUN) – BERLIN

• Worship with your fellow confessional Lutherans, with roundtrip coach transportation included.*

• This evening celebrate the success of your tour with a farewell dinner at your hotel.

Day 9 – 10 AUG (MON) – DEPART BERLIN, GERMANY

• Your tour comes to an end with individual departure transfers to the airport.

About Your Host

Pastor Brian Flamme has traveled around the world as a member of the armed forces and then as a pastor to teach and lecture on biblical, Lutheran theology in countries like Madagascar, Sri Lanka, India, Iceland, and Nepal. In 2023 he hosted the Ultimate Holy Land Tour that gave travelers the chance to journey the in the steps of Christ and his Saints through Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. They even had the chance to climb Mt. Sinai! In 2025 he teamed up with Pastor Wolfmueller to lead a tandem tour of Greece and the isles of the Aegean Sea. Pastor Flamme’s passion is traveling to the places where the history of the confessing Lutheran Church finds its origins while adding unique insights and context to bring these destinations to life in our minds and memories.

He and his wife, Jennifer, have three boys and live in Roswell, New Mexico.
